Can Olisa Metuh buy the pity of the law with his dramatic court appearance?
Unlike the pop stars pulling up in new Bugattis, former PDP spokesperson Olisa Metuh pulled up on a stretcher in his court appearance at the Federal High Court, Abuja over an ongoing N400m corruption. Isn’t this a super version of the government personale probation story Nigerians have heard before?
According to reports from Linda Ikeji’s blog, Metuh’s lawyer had, at the last adjourned date, informed the court presided by Justice Okon Abang that his client was at the Nnamdi Azikiwe specialist hospital for treatment on spinal cord complications but his request was declined. Do you think the judge has gone more than see the dramatic appearance coming?
After seeing Olisa Metuh’s condition, the obvious mission of an adjournment was easily achieved as the George’s adjourned the case till March 15th to allow him recover. However, flipping calendars back to past government embezzlement court cases, Dasuki’s sudden mental disorder, Madueke Diezani’s cancer and others in course of trials, seem to make health issues as the closest excuse Nigerian government personals hide under, to slow down to process of justice and secretly grow above the law overnight.
With a job well done in the dramatic court entry and 38 days standing between now and 15th March, what forensic measures and punishment do you think the court should respectively put in place and enact to checkmate Metuh, should he decide to prolong his supposed health issues?
