From the massive airplay both home and abroad to the controversial NDLEA threat over the dramatic use of fake hard drugs back home in Nigeria, it is safe to conclude that Davido has yet again put the country on the map with his massive collaboration with top international music act; Meek Mill in Fans Mi.
Taking a break from the patriotic acceptance of the song by Nigerians, Views Channel took a safari tour to Narobi, Kenya to bring to you the Kenyan analysis of Davido’s Fans Mi. To ensure a transparent analysis, we set up a panel of music expert, critic and fans by engaging the front burner of the Kenyan entertainment industry from Edna Muyia; a journalist, Kenyan screen diva; Sision Torome, one of Nairobi’s finest DJ; Z.J Heno, super talented actor; Mugambi Nhioga and Patricai Kihoro; a seasoned OAP.
Unexpectedly, the analysis started with seventy percent of the Kenyans interviewed expressing their discontent about Davido’s personality; making reference to his conduct during a live interview the last time he came to perform at a concert alongside DJ Neptune, while 30 percent confirmed the interviewer; Larry, could be frustrating if not checked.
Surprisingly, the love for the song was also stained with dint of second class satisfaction, as some prefer Aye and Gobe to Fans Mi. Lyrical wise, many also considered Davido’s efforts on the lines to be weak compared to Wizkid’s Ojuelegba believed to have the same concept, but on the other hand, Meek Mill verse got all accolades to confirm the success of the African American collaboration.
Against the NDLEA threat back home in Nigeria, the concept of using Fufu power in place of had drugs was accepted with lots kudos and the message was well decoded from different point of views.
After the analysis, the concept, lyrics, beat, video and message of Davido’s Fans Mi rated on a scale one to hundred as we do, and scored an average of 53% on the rating board.
