Liverpool are facing a world record £200million fight to hold on to their sensational forward Mo Salah as European heavyweights Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain dust their cheque books. After a staggering haul of 37 goals in 43 matches this season including four goals against Watford this weekend, Salah has become the most wanted man in world football.
This puts Liverpool in the unenviable place of having to fend off offers from European big guns having seen a number of star players prised from Anfield over the years, the latest being Philippe Coutinho’s £145m transfer to Barca.
Salah, who cost the Reds £34.3m from Roma in the summer, has drawn big comparisons with Lionel Messi and his 28-goal Premier league tally means he has scored three more league goals than the Argentine magician this season. It is understood that Real will drop their interest in Chelsea’s Eden Hazard if they can nab Salah while Barca are said to be interested in pairing the bearded Egyptian with Messi.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp still has £70m at his disposal and a profit of £165m on Salah would allow him to rival both Manchester clubs in another summer’s arms race. Once again for Liverpool, it’s a question of time before another star player departs but who will eventually snatch up the sensational Egyptian?
